Understated elegance is intriguing…
It’s not what the design says,
It’s what it doesn’t say that captures the imagination.Describing a label’s style is difficult – especially when it is your own. When posed with this question over the years, I have come to describe our designs as an embodiment of a particular woman – with all her facets, intricacies, idiosyncrasies, needs and emotions represented by a different design, but sharing the same ‘core’. Some times she’s fun, energetic and active – other times she wants to be seductive and alluring. She is comfortable and laid-back, and yet divinely glamorous. She’s intelligent and progressive, nurturing and yet independent.
Describing this woman through my designs is one of the most consuming and enjoyable elements of my work; a thrill only surpassed by actually meeting the women who wear the designs. I have never stopped delighting in the kind of women that form our clientele – and I am incredibly honoured that our customers chose to wear our designs. They represent everything I envision when I design the pieces.
My inspiration is also derived from family, friends, travel and my own lifestyle. Seasonal fabric-sourcing trips to France and Italy form both tangible and philosophical inspirations for Tengdahl. Italians take such pride in the beauty and quality of their work; they focus on longevity by establishing a foundation and then nurturing their youth to develop it. Substance and reputation are important in every aspect of life.
With each collection, adapting and evolving with emerging trends and markets poses exciting challenges; it’s a constant process of refining, interpreting and moving forward. The epitome of a successful label is one that is able to transcend these obstacles with thoughtful designing and a dynamic team of people.
Enjoy your journey through our site!
