Care for your cashmere

We love cashmere for its timeless appeal and effortless elegance. If you’ve never owned cashmere before and you’ve decided it’s time to invest in this luxurious fibre, it’s important to know how to take care of your pieces. We want to help you keep your garments well cared for so they can last a lifetime and stay voluminous and rich every winter.

How to wash.

Wash inside out

Doing this simple tip will protect the fibres

Gentle wash

Hand wash in tepid water with a small amount of delicate detergent and massage lightly into the fabric

How to dry.

Handle with care

Never twist or wring out your pieces as it will ruin the shape.

Dry with love

Gently squeeze into a ball to extract excess water, then roll in a towel. Lay out flat out of direct sunlight and away from a heat source.

How to store cashmere.

Always clean before you store

Dirt and odours will attract moths and other bugs that will eat away at your precious cashmere items.

Storage bags

Store in your complimentary Tengdahl cotton bag provided with your purchase to keep the bugs out and stop your items from sweating in the warmer months.

Fold your pieces

Hanging up your cashmere pieces can cause them to stretch, fold them and store them on a shelf or your drawers.

How to maintain.

Try de-pilling

Your cashmere will show signs of shedding after the first few wears, invest in a cashmere comb, lay your garment flat and comb in one direction

The Joy of Being a Mum

Julie talks about what being a mum means to her and how she's spending the 10th of May this year...

Can you put into words what being a mum feels like?

To be truly honest I always well up into tears and have this overwhelming feeling of emotions when I try and write about what motherhood means to me. I have a sense of responsibility and personal purpose to be the best mother I can be. My heart aches with the sheer unconditional, adoring love I have for my children and my mother. Being at home in isolation has only heightened those feelings and what I love about being a mum and being home.

What do you adore the most about motherhood?

Just being in the present moment to listen, be compassionate, caring for my three children and my mother is for me the essence of motherhood. Dropping in with fresh baked bread to see my mother, receiving phone calls at all hours from overseas and interstate from my daughters and the daily text from my son downstairs when he is hungry all bring me so much joy and purpose. To be able to serve with “grace” the ones I love, see them happy, feed them and uplift them is what I love and adore about being a mum.

What do you have planned for Mother’s Day this year and how will you reward yourself?

One thing for certain is Mother’s Day 2020 will always be remembered like no other. I’m looking at the silver lining in these challenging times as giving myself and my family the opportunity to do something new, maybe with video? There is nothing like the gift of laughter. We also have an edible garden at the back of our house so I will reward myself on Mother's Day with some quiet time planting vegetables.

Autumn Capsule Wardrobe

We love everything that a capsule wardrobe stands for. It’s a chance to focus on the pieces we love the most, discover their versatility and integrate them into every season of the year. Autumn is a gorgeous time of the year, when the fresh crisp air gives us an opportunity to curate our wardrobe for layering.

How to build a capsule wardrobe in three steps:

1. Pick a colour palette

We always build with base colours, black & white and for this capsule we’ve chosen blue and tan as our accent colours. Prints are also great for adding dimension, remember to choose prints that will complement the palette.

2. Start with foundation pieces

The key pieces that will be rotated the most during the season are a black camisole, a white button shirt, a black slim-leg pants, a zip front jumper and a classic jacket.

3. Choose your fashion pieces

This is where we can experiment with colour, shapes and prints. Your fashion pieces are the items you’ll be layering to create endless outfit options for the season ahead.

The Finest Fibre

A Cashmere Story

Cashmere - Though the word conjures images of sophistication, the fibre has humble beginnings.

Who would think that the hair on the underbelly of the Mongolian goat would be in such high demand, but it has been for centuries. Our cashmere comes from the White Capra Hircus goats of Inner Mongolia. These animals produce the best and finest cashmere as they withstand the severe temperature fluctuations between night and day.

The Process

It takes one Mongolian goat about four years to naturally shed enough hair to make one cashmere sweater. After harvesting, the hair has to be washed and sorted by hand. Only the longest and finest under-fleece – the hair close to the goat’s skin on the belly and neck, is spun and woven to make high quality cashmere.

Find Your Match

Keep it cosy or dress up in our new range of Italian knits and Mongolian cashmere. The spotlight is on earthy tones and surprisingly chic embellishments. We’re tastefully bringing back the tracksuit & the classic high-neck for a collective carefree knit wardrobe.

Always on the go with a pullover

A cashmere jumper is the ultimate Winter hero piece. Style and comfort merge for those lazy days and cool nights. A knitwear must-have that will travel with you everywhere.

Set your sights on a tracksuit

There’s nothing more cosy or luxurious than a matching cashmere tracksuit. If you love a good lounge set or to be the best dressed for a girls weekend, this one is ideal for you.

Layer like a pro with a ribbed cardigan

We love the ease and effortlessness of a knitted cardigan that will pair with just about anything. Add a touch of elegance to your everyday wardrobe with these timeless pieces.

The Design Project

Embracing Brisbane’s Genius

Julie believes there’s a genius in all of us and the spirit of the “Tengdahl genius” flourishes in this year’s Design Project. Our talented Hannah has blossomed seamlessly into the Tengdahl brand, working with her love of design and production.

As summer approaches, Hannah blends her passion for Indian philosophy and textiles into a free-spirited, youthful summer dress, reflecting her belief in sustainable and ethically produced fashion.

The hand blocked pure cotton fabric has been created in a traditional Ajrakh design, unique to Rajasthan.

Hannah has called the dress "Tara", meaning “star” in Hindi, and the print "Desert Flower".
